Microsoft said that Apple’s app store and policies restrict users from accessing cloud gaming services in its submission to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) during the authority’s investigation into mobile web browsers and cloud gaming. The regulator is investigating whether Apple’s App Store policies effectively ban cloud gaming services from the App Store and whether this weakens competition in the distribution of cloud gaming.

Microsoft Gaming’s CEO expressed that Apple has not gone far enough to accommodate the goals of Xbox Cloud Gaming. He emphasized that there is insufficient space to monetize Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS due to Apple’s strict terms, stating that they are not moving in a direction that supports healthy competition.

While Microsoft continues to collaborate with Google and Apple to ensure quality service for Android and iOS device owners, discrepancies in Apple’s guidelines have hindered progress. Microsoft raised concerns with Apple’s requirements for multiplatform services within Xbox Cloud Gaming, leading to complications regarding in-app purchases and subscriptions.
