Microsoft is now adding games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 to the Xbox One.
If you've ever wanted to play early Xbox games on your smartphones, such as the Perfect Dark series or The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, rejoice! Microsoft revealed today that it would add 16 backward compatible Xbox 360 and original console games to Xbox cloud gaming (the service we previously called xCloud).
Although the initial range of older games is limited, I'm sure many gamers would enjoy the ability to play the console versions of Fallout: New Vegas and Oblivion on the go. Touchscreen controls have also been applied to Jetpac Refuelled, Viva Pinata, and Viva Pinata TIP, making them feel like real mobile games. It's unknown how many Game Pass users use cloud gaming, but adding more fun to the service doesn't hurt. It also strengthens Microsoft's role until Xbox cloud gaming becomes more commonly accessible on iOS and other devices. I won't be shocked if Xbox is yet another program on smart TVs and set-top boxes shortly.
Here are the backward compatible games headed to Xbox cloud gaming:
- Double Dragon Neon
- Fable II
- Fallout: New Vegas
- Gears of War 2
- Gears of War 3
- Gears of War: Judgment
- Jetpac Refuelled (touch controls enabled)
- Perfect Dark
- Perfect Dark Zero
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Viva Piñata (touch controls enabled)
Viva Piñata: TIP (touch controls enabled)
