Xbox monthly Cloud Gaming limits for Game Pass subscribers: not everyone will be affected

Xbox Cloud Gaming might soon be free to use - XRCLOUD Resources

Some existing subscribers have been told they can keep streaming without the new limits as long as they keep their current subscription active. However, there is an important catch. This exemption appears to be available only in certain regions.

Existing subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Poland and Germany have reportedly received emails saying that they will not face limitations as long as they continue to subscribe. According to VGC, the changes will only apply to new accounts in those regions – or if a subscriber leaves the service and rejoins.

Microsoft has started emailing some Xbox Game Pass members to explain how the upcoming Cloud Gaming changes will affect their accounts. According to the email, the new limits will only apply to new purchases in their market and won’t affect an existing subscription as long as it remains on an auto-recurring plan.

Still, Microsoft’s strategy reflects a broader reality: cloud gaming is not actually free to operate. Xbox’s November changes could therefore become an important test for the future of game streaming. If players accept the limits, other platforms may follow. If they reject them, Microsoft may face pressure to reconsider the model.

Either way, the era of unlimited cloud gaming as a standard subscription feature appears to be entering a new phase.
