Xbox opens cloud gaming to non-subscribers

Xbox Cloud Gaming might soon be free to use - XRCLOUD Resources

Microsoft is testing a new way to access Xbox Cloud Gaming without an active Game Pass subscription. The playtime packs will let Xbox Insiders stream games they already own digitally, along with select free-to-play titles, without committing to a monthly membership.

In an Xbox Wire announcement on 21 October 2026, the company said Insiders can buy cloud playtime packs at introductory prices of $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours, and $11.99 for 50 hours. Microsoft plans a broader rollout in November. The packs are aimed at players who do not pay for Game Pass, and Microsoft says the prices are "introductory launch pricing" and may change.

The free tier works differently. During the Xbox Insider test, sessions are limited to 30 minutes. After that, an ad plays, and the player has to re-queue to continue.
